On the 23rd of October 1995 a phenomenon was born. Channel 4 aired the first
episode of its new fictonal soap Hollyoaks. Set in and around a fictional place
called Hollyoaks. Hollyoaks was almost entirely shot at studios in based in
Liverpool and is produced by Lime Pictures.

Hollyoaks was originally intended to be a once weekly show before Mersey TV
decided to increase the frequency to two screenings a week.
By many Hollyoaks is predominantly considered to be a “teen soap” with its young
cast and plot lines focussed on students, teenagers and adolescents.
The hollyoaks production team have recently been experimenting with different
styles of writing and in 2007 was the first soap to show episodes dealing with
material in a non-linear fashion. Hollyoaks is also the only UK soap to make use
of background music in its episodes
